As a small business webmaster for more than six years, I often get called, emailed or pulled aside for my advice as to why a company's web site isn't making much money (let alone turning a profit). What I have found is that 75% of these web mistakes are fixable and don't take too much time to correct. The other 25% of the time I am forced to tell the company owners to prepare the dynamite sticks because they are completely shooting themselves in the foot every day their web site remains viewable. I'm sure many of you reading this article have visited such web sites and will agree.
What I've done is to compile for you a list of the Top 25 errors I see or point out most frequently. My goal is for you to take this information and use it as a checklist on your own web site. It could very well create a surge in your traffic, revenue and customer base.
Why should you do it today?
Your profits are in jeopardy and your image is being judged.
Take this Top 25 list and use it to your advantage.
Good Luck in your endeavors.

THE LIST:
1. General unprofessional look and feel. Your web site is basically a big advertisement. Why would you skimp on professionalism? Your reputation is at stake here.
2. Unreadable text on a colored background OR text is too small to read at all.
3. Typos, spelling errors, grammatical errors, sentences that make no sense and sloppy formatting of your pages.
4. Image/graphic DPI is 96, 150 or higher. 72 is the web standard.
5. Multiple graphics that are not compressed causing very s-l-o-w loading of your page.
6. Broken hyperlinks.
7. Multiple pop-up or pop under windows.
8. No contact information listed.
9. No support information listed.
10. Forced disclosure of a visitor's personal info.
11. No clearly defined & simple navigation menu on each page.
12. Splash pages - You have valuable few seconds to attract and keep visitors. Why waste it on this unnecessary page that just links to your main page?
13. Unclear focus or wandering of your site's theme.
14. No emphasis on the benefits for "you" the visitor.
15. Frame based web site that can't be spidered correctly by search engines or navigated easily by visitors.
16. Lack of clear & visible product pricing.
17. Lack of return/refund policy listed.
18. No meta tags in .html coding.
19. Not cross-browser friendly.
20. A ridiculously l-o-n-g and winded homepage. Keep it simple and short. Don't make users continue scrolling. They won't! (Yes, there are a few exceptions to this rule as in the case of a "Mini-Site" selling one product).
21. The use of too many uncomplimentary colors (makes your site appear absolutely hideous and evokes a "Yuck!" from your visitors).
22. Use of background music or multimedia overkill.
23. Outdated, stale content like news, articles or information.
24. "Under construction" images or text. Completely unprofessional and should be avoided at all costs. In some cases, visitors will think your web site is not yet truly ready for business.
25. No printer friendly page option.
